Hato San Pablo, Casanare – Colombia
A unique and immersive journey into authentic Llanero cowboy culture
Day 1 :Arrival in Los Llanos & Welcome.

Morning meetup in the city of Yopal or Yopal Airport.

Visit to local saddle makers and traditional Llanero shops.

Transfer to Hato San Pablo (approx. 4 hours by car) or direct private flight to the ranch.

Traditional welcome lunch.
-
Introduction to Caporal Olguer “El Cuñado” and his team of vaqueros.

Horse assignment and first light rides to get familiar with the terrain.

Dinner and briefing on the week’s activities

Day 2 : Beginning the Trabajo de Llano.

Wake-up at 4:00 am with strong cowboy coffee (“café cerrero”) and mañoco.
-
Departure on horseback alongside the 30 San Pablo vaqueros.
-
Gathering the first herd and driving the cattle toward the main corral.
-
Sorting, branding, and vaccinating the animals.
-
Traditional field lunch out in the savanna.
-
Return to the ranch at midday and free afternoon to rest or swim in the river.

Dinner accompanied by Llanero stories and songs

Day 3 : Horse Round-Up & Llanero Horsemanship

Sunrise ride to gather the madrinas leading the semi-wild horse groups.

A fast-paced cattle and horse drive across rivers, wetlands, and open savannas.

Observation of the traditional Llanero horse-breaking techniques.

Lunch at the ranch.

Cultural afternoon with demonstrations of lassoing and braided rawhide rope crafting.

Campfire with joropo music and cowboy storytelling.
Day 4: Rodeo Work & Ranch Traditions

Corral work: separating calves, identifying cows, and organizing herds.

Use of the madrino oxen to control and guide the livestock.

Lunch at the corral together with the cowboys.

Afternoon: short ride through the pastures and a visit to the Cravo Sur River.

Rustic outdoor dinner and rest.

Day 5 : Llanero Culture & Wildlife

Exploration ride through the ranch’s vast savannas, caños, lagoons, and wetlands.

Wildlife sightings may include capybaras, deer, herons, scarlet ibises, and many river birds.

Picnic lunch under the shade of the moriche palm groves.
-
Free afternoon for a river swim or hammock siesta.
-
Dinner featuring signature Llanero cuisine: carne a la perra, tungos, and hayacas.

Day 6 : Final Herding Day & Farewell to the Plains

Early morning ride accompanying the final cattle drive.

Participation in the toreada and closing corral work.
-
Symbolic end-of-week ceremony with the vaqueros.

Farewell lunch.

Free afternoon to spend time with the horses or relax by the river.

Special dinner with traditional music and dancing.

Day 7 : Active Surprise Day
Depending on the weather and the group, a special activity will be selected.
Expect an engaging, active experience chosen to perfectly complement the week’s cowboy adventure.
Day 8 : Farewell Ride & Return

Short farewell ride through the ranch pastures.

Transfer back to Yopal.

End of the experience / flight back to Bogotá.
